At St Stephen’s we are joining the Bishop of London’s Lent Appeal for 2019 to support organisations who work to support people who have been caught in the abuse of modern day slavery. Tens of thousands of people are trafficked every year often under the illusion that they are fleeing from troubled countries to a better life but only to find themselves caught in situations of abuse as they are forced to working domestic service, service industries, the sex industry, on building sites and in many other situations. People are intimidated and threatened and feel there is no escape from their situation.
But across London many organisations work to free people from modern day slavery and support them back into living fulfilled lives. The appeal will help a number of these organisations to continue their work.
